Nancy Brown was a Fine Barber

As of my 62nd birthday this November I am retiring from retail barbering. I am withdrawing from the barber shop enterprise I helped found, Barbers Oakland, and am becoming a pensioner. This is a position which I have worked hard for and earned. Plus, my dear husband, Klaus, has urged me to make this change so that our lives together can be as sweet as possible as the golden years dawn on us.

I do still practice barbering and esthetics in my fully equipped home shop, but only for family and friends.

My more full time occupation now is painting. I am a realist painter, but recent exposure to forward thinking artists has me experimenting with less structure. Still though, portraying the lovely city of Oakland is a passion of mine that will never die. I have recently finished many paintings that have sat incomplete for years and I am poised to reveal more of "the desperation and the coolness", as one of my clients put it, of the city of Oakland and of life itself. I also see rich opportunity for important political art in the days to come, this being written on the 8th of December, 2016.

Love and peace to all.

Nancy

  1. Hi Nancy:

Congratulations on your retirement and renewed creative pursuits! I'm retiring from UCB this June, and I still haven't found anyone who could do what you did for my hair (especially the color). Would you consider me a "friend"? If you'd rather not, is there any way you could tell me what color product(s) you used for my highlights at Weeds & in Montclair? It seems like a mystery to most hairstylists...
